Dr. Louis Kuchnir

Dr. Louis Kuchnir founded Kuchnir Dermatology in 2001 after completing residency at the University of Massachusetts.  He served as president of the Massachusetts Academy of Dermatology from 2009-2015.  He received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned a PhD in physical chemistry at Harvard University and went to college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Kevin Donohue

Dr. Kevin Donohue joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2006. Dr. Donohue completed residency at the Roger Williams Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth University and went to college at the University of Massachusetts. He is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Carl Schanbacher

Dr. Carl Schanbacher joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2007. Dr. Schanbacher previously served seven years on the faculty at Harvard Medical School where he was the chief of skin cancer surgery at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. He completed dermatology residency at the Mayo Clinic and a Mohs surgery fellowship at UCLA. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska and went to college at Colorado State University. He is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery.

Dr. Kathy White

Dr. Kathy White joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2009. Dr. White completed internal medicine residency at the Lahey Clinic. She received her medical degree from the University of New England and went to college at Brandeis University. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has had extensive dermatology experience at the Lahey Clinic.

Dr. Monika Berg

Dr. Monika Berg joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2013, after running her own practice in Framingham since 1976.  Dr. Berg completed residency at the Boston University and Tufts combined dermatology program.  She received her medical degree from the University of Geneva Medical School in Switzerland.

Dr. Thanh-Nga Tran

Dr. Thanh-Nga Tran joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2013.  Dr. Tran is on faculty at  Harvard University Medical School.  Dr. Tran completed residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital.  She received her medical degree from Harvard University and earned a PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She went to college at the California Institute of Technology.  She is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and serves on committees at both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.

 

Dr. Tran's main passion is her volunteer work.  She co-founded The Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center, a non-profit organization that provides laser technology and expertise to help children with disfiguring birthmarks in Vietnam.  To see Dr. Tran’s work with VVAC highlighted in the Harvard Medical News, click here.  All of the proceeds from her laser procedures are donated to the Vietnam Vascular Anomalies Center.

Dr. Tran is currently conducting research at the Massachusetts General Hospital to look at treatment to improve the hardening (or fibrosis) of skin associated with chronic radiation.  A link to the study can be found here:   https://rally.partners.org/study/chronic_radiation_dermatitis.

Dr. Karen Mitchell

Dr. Karen Mitchell joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2015.  Dr. Mitchell provided care for over a decade at the Lahey Clinic and also at US Air Force Medical Centers where she served as Lieutenant Colonel.  Dr. Mitchell completed residency at the Wilford Hall Army-AirForce dermatology residency.  She received her medical degree from the United States’ Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  She went to Smith College.  She has been board-certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology by the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Peter Schalock

Dr. Peter Schalock joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2016.  He served 10 years at the Massachusetts General Hospital while on faculty at Harvard Medical School as Associate Professor.  Dr. Schalock has lectured nationally and internationally on contact dermatitis, patch testing, and metal allergy and provides extensive patch testing services in the Kuchnir Contact Dermatitis Clinic.  He completed residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.  He received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University and went to college at Linfield College.  Dr. Schalock is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the American Contact Dermatitis Society.

Dr. Dennis Porto

Dr Porto is the founder of SkinCare.MD and is a board-certified, Harvard educated dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic skin diagnosis and treatment. Dr Porto graduated from the University of Iowa before completing a skin cancer research fellowship at Harvard, a one year medicine internship, and a three year dermatology residency. In dermatology residency, Dr Porto refined his surgical, laser, cosmetic, and medical dermatology expertise. Thereafter, Dr Porto was awarded the Lewis Hackett scholarship to return to Harvard where he studied at the School of Public Health (HSPH) and the Business School (HBS) and was awarded a Masters degree. He is the author of dozens of textbook chapters and journal articles. Dr Porto was an author and editor for  the  textbook on Botox and other cosmetic injections. Dr Porto is the winner of the Golden Scalpel awarded by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Lisa Shen

Dr. Lisa Shen joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2019 while continuing her academic career at the Boston University School of Medicine.  Dr. Shen completed a dermatology residency and pediatric fellowship at Northwestern University.  She received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin.  She is board-certified in both dermatology and pediatric dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology.

Barbara Starr, NP

Nurse Practitioner Barbara Starr joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2008. Since 2009 she has been editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Dermatology Nurses’ Association. Ms. Starr received her dermatology training directly from the department chairmen of both the UMass and Harvard Medical Schools. She provided dermatologic care for M.I.T.’s faculty, students, and their families at MIT Medical Dermatology for seven years prior to joining our dermatologists. Ms. Starr received her MSN from the MGH Institute of Health Professions and went to college at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Kate Schoch, NP

Nurse Practitioner Kate Schoch joined Kuchnir Dermatology in 2018.  Since 2014 she has been an Instructor of Dermatology at the Boston University School of Medicine.  Ms. Schoch received her dermatology training directly from Dr. Kuchnir and from the physician faculty at that medical school. She provided dermatologic care in private and academic practice for seven years prior to joining our dermatologists. Ms. Schoch received her RN and MSN from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester and went to college at Westfield State.
